According to Barrasso, in addition to Thanksgiving dinner with the troops, the delegation will use the holiday to examine several areas of the country and meet with high-ranking military officials from the U.S. and Iraq.
“This is my first opportunity to see first-hand the job being done by our military commanders and troops in Iraq ,” Barrasso said. “As well, I think it is particularly important on this holiday of thanks that we tell our military men and women how proud we are of the job they do and how much they are missed back home,” Barrasso said.

Barrasso Applauds Driver’s License Decision
11/14/07
“Governor Spitzer’s announcement today in D.C. is proof that people across our country are saying the same thing I hear every weekend in Wyoming : we want secure borders and a secure nation," Senator Barrasso said. “But, we won’t truly be serious about securing our borders and stopping illegal immigration until every state stops the practice of issuing driver’s licenses to individuals who are in the country illegally.”

Enzi rebuffs Farm Bill lock down
11/14/07
"I’m disappointed that the majority leader has insisted on making the Farm Bill a partisan battle. Senators whose states rely on the ag industry and the ranchers and farmers who in turn rely on them to put forward fair policy are being denied this opportunity.
"This legislation has many good aspects that address many needs of farmers and ranchers in this country. But it can be made better. Senators who represent ag interests should be given the opportunity to do that. Their proposals should be given fair consideration," said Enzi.

Barrasso: No Driver’s Licenses For Illegals
Bill closes dangerous loophole by requiring verification of legal status
11/14/07
Barrasso today introduced legislation that would discourage those few states that currently issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants by withholding 10 percent of federal highways funds.
The bill essentially closes a dangerous loophole and sends a tough message to those states that want to give illegal immigrants the ability to apply for and receive a driver’s license despite the fact they are in the country illegally, Barrasso said.

Barrasso On Fox News Today
11/14/07
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., is scheduled to appear today on Fox News Channel’s "America's Pulse" with E.D. Hill between 12:00-12:30 p.m. (MST).
Barrasso will discuss his bill to penalize states that give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.
The bill, S. 2334, withholds 10 percent of federal highway funds from states that reward illegal immigrants with driver’s licenses.
Under Barrasso’s bill, states must verify that each driver’s license applicant is here legally. The bill would redistribute the withheld funds to states that follow the law.
Wyoming already complies with these proposals, Barrasso said. Furthermore, Wyoming could gain more highway dollars with the enactment of the bill.

Enzi: Disaster assistance can and should be planned for
Supports Farm Bill disaster assistance program
11/6/07
"As any accountant will tell you, it is important to have a rainy day fund. Right now it is unacceptable and irresponsible that the federal government does not have a rainy day account for agriculture disasters or any other disasters for that matter. Almost every year some sort of disaster strikes our agriculture producers whether it be drought, hurricanes or fires," said Enzi. "This program would provide fiscal responsibility and predictable assistance to agriculture producers while easing the minds of taxpayers. It should remain in the Farm Bill."

Senate passes broken record SCHIP bill
Enzi votes against bill, President vows to veto...again
11/1/07
Enzi took to the Senate floor before the Senate passed the bill, to voice his full support of the SCHIP program, especially Wyoming’s successful program, but stated his concern that this bill, H.R. 3963, still fails to put low-income children first. The bill expands SCHIP to higher income families, still enrolls adults, still removes 2 million individuals from private coverage and puts them on government-run health care, and still pays for the increase in funds through budget gimmicks.

Mouse closer to jumping free around Wyoming
Proposed rule would delist Preble’s jumping mouse in Wyoming
11/1/07
"The USFWS has cried wolf on delisting the mouse for many years but today I am hopeful it will pan out and Wyoming ranchers and farmers will no longer be held hostage by a mouse. I’m extremely disappointed the Fish and Wildlife Service did not follow the science that suggests the Preble’s jumping mouse is not a distinct species," said U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. "This announcement is a step forward but I will continue working for ESA reform to ensure landowners, ranchers, sportsmen and local communities are not unfairly burdened by out of date legislation that can deadlock an entire area with few avenues for recourse."
